unique thing going on uh it's called only Vans she always shoots it in a van I think she has a unique take on a lot of this she's been playing you know like in the Texas country scene she's kind of a legend so not even kind of she is a legend she's been doing it for like 15 years so she has a

really unique take on a lot of the road stories and the festival stories songwriting um but she's got guests on there too that aren't necessarily in music it's a lot of fun she's a cool person she also doesn't freaking cut people off all the time and want to talk over everybody which I can really appreciate in a conversation so she's a cool

person on the court and off the court and um you guys can go to Bluegrass situation uh to go find the podcast or you can go to only van.com and uh y'all check it out it's a lot of fun yeah I think about it for a long time before the interview happens yeah me too I have to the only one I didn't

do was we had Mickey the Motorcars on there because I went to go interview Willie braa and then Mickey was there and he's like Mick we want to do this podcast and I and I was like I'm not prepared and it was totally fine because I've known Mickey for 15 years yeah so you were yeah it was fine I'm a little bit

like that with shows I have to like even backstage and stuff man it's weird like I like to be alone sometimes but then other times I like to just create like a like just a hangout atmosphere and kind of just start I don't know almost like getting warmed up mentally a little bit just I keep finger gunning no I know I you

know what I mean like just cutting up and then when I walk on stage from that point it's like I'm already in like a rhythm of that but some if I'm just by myself like sitting in the van yeah just in silence or I'm like listening to music it's a little weird to cuz I guess you're going from you're just alone and

then all of a sudden you're in front of whatever a bunch of people and then it's just like a too jarring for me or the afterwards always gets me I always picture like a documentary of your life you're on stage and it's loud and then all of a sudden you go back and it's just like zoom and it's immediately quiet and it's

such a weird feeling or I know I'm not even playing like stadiums and stuff but I can't imagine somebody like luk Combs coming off stage and it's immediately just like quiet or like yeah I mean people are so into it out in front and then you just walk off stage on the side and like there's a it's almost like there's a separate

it's just a totally separate Vibe happening that then you have to insert yourself you walk into and like even if somebody s stage would just maybe high five high five I swear I would just make my day but they just kind of well I think people don't want to bug you I think so and they want to give you your space but

then it makes you feel weird especially if there was ever a moment where like people left or it was a weird show oh it's kind of almost like maybe you when you walk off stage they're just giving you your space which is super nice but then you feel weirder I know I wish they would just be like ah screw that let's go

here's a high five a shot a hug a Chihuahua a chi CH is that technically a Chihuahua she's 51% Chihuahua okay well I'm glad we you know yeah I just got her DNA back so I would why I like her now you know if You' have said 49 I'm out she's mostly chah she wants to wander around but she's not going to

pee on your floor she's sweet yeah oh yeah I don't care um pee on anything you know she call what's the shirt she's wearing it says call my agent call gosh Come on crushing the game yeah uh my drummer engineer producer has a little chii chich chii CH wewi but I think he's like he's super Chihuahua and uh and he's mean yeah

she's really sweet like you said but I got her DNA back and there's a bunch of terrier and so she's mixed with a bunch of really friendly cute things yeah so little palm is there any pomeran no I feel like why do I why do you not have a pom for sure have you had a Pomeranian no so I have always wanted

a Pomeranian like so you're accurate with that and I want to carry it around and like a football and like that's all I want to do but this dog I found her so I promised my mom I wouldn't get a dog unless I found one because I got a dog in college like an idiot and my mom ended up with it so

I told her I'll never get another dog unless I find one and then I actually found her she's where like the Coffee Bean or what I'm like at the uh in the middle of nowhere and I was driving and I said everyone was tired and no one wanted to drive and I was like I'll drive this is a perfect place to look

for stray dogs we were southeast of Austin and there she was in the middle of the hold on you said this is a perfect place to look for stray dogs you were looking for them I was looking for it and I think the um super University and I was dating a total jerk and then like that dog I turned the corner and

that dog was in the middle of the road and he hated that dog and I think like that dog gave me the strength to leave that relationship and it was that dog was placed there so I would leave that person and then obviously eventually find my soulmate what is what is University like thing things are happened for a reason and if you

are looking for signs and positivity and you have your mind shaped of then the universe likes that and kind of puts things in your path to you know help you get what you want and um like negativity attracts negativity and positivity attracts positivity maybe so is that go into astrology at all like are you into that kind of stuff crystals no okay

so it's mainly I've tried but yeah it's a little far for me it's mainly like it's mainly it might all be [expletive] but it makes you a more positive person if you're framed that way absolutely and I notice that when I don't write WR in my gratitude journal for a long time I'm kind of Negative Nancy and when I do like it's

just I'm a better person for it I thought there was somebody I heard talking about there's a certain part of your I'm going to butcher this too by the way but there's like to the there's a certain part of your brain that when you complain it's the same part of your brain that you utilize when you're like thankful for something so it's

like it's a binary option within your brain wow and so if you oh God I bet it's just not true and it's probably just some crazy pseudo science but I don't I heard some really smart person talking about that so it's like you can make an active choice if you are thankful that it doesn't leave your brain opportunity to be not even

like in a theoretical way like in a scientific way it doesn't give your brain the opportunity to be negative right I don't go quite as far I don't go as far as like you can like speak it into the universe and then it's going to happen cuz that starts to get like we like casting spells now what do is happening yeah and

a little narcissistic like the universe works for me like I control it totally I'm with you on that but there has been some really strange things that have happened that um not that I think that I control it but I think that um I love the idea that the Universe and the world wants you to be successful and pursue your true passion

and it will help you do that if you are being a good person and trying to be positive and looking for the beauty in the world instead of and I think what's the Willie Nelson they were like how did you live so long he said I just stopped thinking negative thoughts it didn't serve me like he said some I probably butchered that

it was something like that and I spend so much time worrying and calculating money and I'm not so I'm not saying I'm good at it and I'm work at being better at it but I do notice when I'm actively trying to think positively that I'm happier and less stressed out and sleeping better and stuff yeah well yeah stress for sure gets to

you um yeah the positive mindset is elusive at times I really do think it's just it's almost like an activity that you have to make a decision I'm going to I'm going to spend some time to like be thankful right cuz I mean if we wake up like in America there's a real good chance we've got it better than probably the majority

of the world the stuff we have to worry about right is absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things oh my God my internet is out for it's only uploading at this many gigabytes or whatever I really observed it when I had a show in Hobs New Mexico so I was flying from here to Hobbs got a connecting flight in Houston and

I missed my connecting flight and it was like a whole thing like it was ridiculous how I missed it like it wasn't my fault the gate lady was insane and uh so whatever I went up to the front like nobody was helpful it was really weird I actually handled I didn't like lose my temper or anything but I could feel myself like

getting anxious uh you know like what we're talking and this is on the heels of I had just driven through Wyoming on like um the or it was on the Oregon Trail so we stopped at this thing called independent Rock Independence rock where all the Old Settlers they would write their names on this rock right I know what you're talking about really

mhm and so in the little Museum thing we're like reading about it and you know most of the women died in childbirth or like they died of Chala from like bad water yeah right just insane and the only thing that they were traveling the only thing sustaining them was just hope they had no guarantees of anything it was just where they were

coming from was bad enough that they were going to weather all of that adversity just for a little bit of Hope where they were going could have been worse they didn't know but they just knew where they were at was that bad and so I'm on this flight and I can't contain myself because I'm like well what I'm now I got to

get a different flight now I got to fly into Midland rent a car drive up to Hobs I'm like well but what if I can't get a hold of the rental car companies right now I'm going to get in it midnight what if they're not open I can't get a car how like then I got to change my flight back and so

but I just booked the flight and I end up just like having a cocktail and sitting there I met this super dope guy on uh on the flight who's a photographer and then we end up just chatting up we talked about this exact thing and I was like the amount of anxiety that I had because I didn't know if there was going

to be a rental car company open when I landed right was just like I couldn't handle it right yeah it's like that's ridiculous these people went all the way across the world on just a hope I yeah totally but I dive I can't when I think about PE other people's problems in the world or if I read articles about it or the

wars and stuff I dive so hard into that I get depressed so do you do that or I know isn't it weird it doesn't like actually make you more thankful oh no it makes me like we need to go to this Village and help these people what are we doing and how come this is happening and how is life so unfair at

the exact same moment across the world and there's the kids and the Animals across the world I can't it's too much for me but I think I mean my mom said when I found out about the Holocaust when I was younger that I locked myself in my room and like didn't come out cuz I was so upset so I think that's just

who I've always been yeah but that's a pretty great attribute is it well the opposite of that like what if it made you happy oh right so you know that's a psychopath right there might be the cousin of thankfulness like a distant cousin in a weird way you just made me think about this but like it might in a way be guilt

like there's a little bit of thankfulness that comes from guilt yeah maybe yeah or like sometimes when I'm playing shows and this isn't the ideal thing or and I tell Paul all the time there's some things that really bother me and the other night he said almost every musician would kill to be you oh like it's so he said that right to

you to my face how' you handle that well he's usually right which is frustrating yeah but you didn't tell him that in the moment did you I probably did oh wow yeah that's a big move yeah well I mean he is right there's so many people that I know that can't get gigs or can't get a booking agent you know I don't

have that problem so I'm very grateful for that there what are you talking to me I can't get a booking agent that's insane to me but I mean I see the shows you're playing and I'm like well I can't open for that person so I think it's all different see it's like it's all just a bunch of BS and it's shoved in

your face every time you open Instagram isn't that the truth it's like hero well I just said this on my year end thing for my podcast but it was Instagram knows how bad I want to play the oery and every time I open up my Instagram which they told me no for now but they're going to I'm going to get them but

every time I open up my Instagram it's somebody's Opry debut or Opry recap or Opry like it know how does it know I mean I what you might be jealous of right it's fascinating That's crazy cuz I don't think I had said it out loud before I started noticing I mean I'm sure I did maybe but you know that is weird I

know I'm going to have to pay more attention to that cuz maybe that yeah I wonder if there's stuff that I'm just getting fed that right that's fascinating yeah staying in your lane your own lane is tough especially with you know social media right now you know like before the internet I have a feeling that people were maybe a little bit more

collaborative um because you could you could theoretically be out on the road and be playing shows with whoever right you guys have good shows you're detached from the industry to a degree because you're just out on the road playing right so it's a maybe a little bit more pure you guys are just playing music together hey you want to cut this song

you want to come up and sing this one with me it's not like this real time feedback of how it went down and then also if you're at the show with somebody today we know like if somebody just started to pop off on Tik Tok last week yeah and changes the dynamic when you're around them as opposed to before that they were

just hanging out together as like buddies right they didn't know that he already he was going to have a number one song like they didn't know that yet right or we were just with uh Hudson Westbrook was opening for Wilder blue in Midland and he you know like he made it a point to say like something along the lines of I feel

a little guilty I've only been doing this for this long and it was like no it's fine because we all wish it could have been like that for us but he's aware of it and kind of he didn't say that to me he said it to Zayn I didn't get to talk to him but it was interesting because we were like oh

don't feel bad for that yeah but he's aware of it and we're aware of it like everybody's aware of it well that's good he's aware of it cuz like hopefully that makes him uh I guess understand that there's some stuff he needs to learn or should learn MH um you know like I had a podcast with Cody West and we were talking

about this exact thing about like being thankful for having to actually grind at it a little bit cuz you get a lot of perspective and there's so many intangibles that people don't consider when a label signs you like well how do you lead a band like how do you hire a band like how do you know this is a good drummer how

do you know this is a bad drummer how do you design merch how do you sell merch like how do you understand the deal sheet at the end of end of the night how do you know how do you know how your voice reacts when you drove all night and somebody got you drunk the night before you still got to get up

there and sing like those are all things that you have to be what little poochie she's stuck on your no I totally agree with that and I'm so glad that the first time I got too drunk on stage wasn't in front of an arena of people and I won't do that ever again and putting together a show or transitions or building a

show and I mean I thought he did a great job I was really impressed with him and his band so you know maybe you figure it out quicker but I wasn't the person to figure out I mean I think any situation and this isn't him but I remember seeing someone online where their ear pack went out and they just had a total

meltdown cuz it's like their ear packs never gone out and they're in front of a ton of people and they don't know how to handle that I think almost anything can go wrong on stage and now I've played a thousand shows like I can almost handle any situation sure except I start I got like a tickle cough in Pennsylvania and I'd been

on the road 3 weeks straight I did 22 shows in October like almost in a row and I got a tickle cough on Stage 22 in 1 month in a row almost there's like a couple days off in between oh my goodness it was real dum I found out how old I was immediately oh well come on you could have you could

have been 17 and that's still brutal but I got like a tickle cough and I couldn't stop it yeah and I started crying on stage and had like a meltdown but I was also I'd been gone for 3 weeks straight and I was tired and I was just worn down and I was so embarrassed I was in Pennsylvania and I just was

it a bad show it was fine and there was like a whole table big table there for me there was like a decent crowd it was like was it after you had a melted though oh no I stopped and walked off stage holy cow 15 minutes early oh well that's not and I wasn't headlining yeah but still I was mortified like I'm

still talking about it because I'm so mortified cuz I just how I'm like there's no situation that could happen that I couldn't handle that would be the one person in the comment section well I saw her in Pennsylvania listen in Pennsylvania she started she had a teleprompter like I just was like I'm so sorry everybody but I couldn't physically stop it was

out of my yeah control but I think any other thing like I got it yeah you hit me with a beer bottle I've always do you ever I've really had a this Daydream for so long where someone chunks a beer bottle at me like at a chili Fest or something and I play and I just catch it and then I chug it

and then I throw it down and then that's how I get I love it I love it but the chugging it grosses me out true like I appreciate the fact not a chili f well for sure you know cuz he probably just threw up some chili or something gosh and then you know um sledging through pee all day what I can appreciate

is that you showed him you showed him what's up yeah you know in the scenario that you just made in but you might have just caught some things other than a beer bottle true you caught more than a beer B well now if it happens I'm going to catch it and pour it out and then throw it down it might okay I

like what if you called him I was gonna say if you called him up there and P it on his head oh but that's pretty like Mean Girls right but he did he just hucked a beer bottle at you yeah and it happens there oh no so I actually like it cuz that was insane that he just threw a beer bottle at

you right so I like the idea that you we're assuming it's a man we're 100% assuming that it's a man right uh I don't know there's probably yeah I mean girls are pretty vicious though yeah or if fake Bri Bagwell is out there on social media right now like 20 new accounts a day and fake Bri Bagwell is just like causing a

ruckus like my booking agent just got an email please tell her to stop messaging my husband I'm in my third trimester and so fake Bri Bagwell is talking to a dude with a pregnant wife and I bet she wants to kill me so maybe she would be the one who came to the show I'm like why is there a pregnant lady at

chil Fest it's her and she throws the beer bottle for sure she see that could be her it could be her oh my gosh talk about the things people don't even think about being in the realm of possibilities I'm not that famous and there's 20 new mes a day yeah it's insane I had a buddy of mine really close friend sent me

a picture of him wearing one of my hoodies and it's not a hoodie that I sell I'm like why how me what my friend sent me a screenshot of or a picture of one that she bought and it said Brianna Bagwell which is my full name best ever with like a heart and a guitar angel wings she's like my shirt came in

I was like first of all why would you ever think I would put best ever on my own t-shirt it's strong what do you think that says about me but they go tag your friends and say please help me I'm trying to raise money oh and they tag your friends directly and so she thought she was helping with a Wings on a

guitar on a flaming heart like that's not stop is it the same one no oh my God fake I got to show this to you they're the same people they're the same people going after us we got to take this more seriously actually we might need to but no the money that fake people are making if we could have the money real

I don't get to have very much of it so I take a lot of pride in it and are you kidding me it's the same thing as when people tell you uh oh you remind me of you sound just like so and you remind me of so and so and you're like are you freaking kidding me yeah that's what I remind you

of you should do a show with so and so you guys are exactly like I'm like oh my gosh my aunt my sweet aunt she was like I got an idea call me you need to call Carrie Underwood and because you guys look alike and you guys could do a duet called who's your daddy cuz it you guys look so similar that's

the same is that the same is your Aunt the same person that like any person that talks about putting on like a music festival or like hey at Joe's hole in the wall bar we're going to start doing music who do you guys want to hear in the first comments like George straight and the venue holds like 75 people I mean dream

big like my I love how big she's dreaming for me and also that she thinks I can call Carrie underway that's the yeah call her up sure I'm down great idea let's make that happened Carrie listen do you know my aunt what if she was like oh yeah Susie yeah oh my gosh I do have an aunt Susy yeah um I don't

know if I know what's her name her my Aunt Denise and I love her she wouldn't care if I told this story Denise that was I'm curious what that looks like how creepy that is direct into the she's going to love it I think it's the head tilt that makes it weird though yeah like that's where you start creeping a little bit

I always forget that we're on I'm wearing my sweats today but I we were doing good and on time and then we hit traffic in Dallas and then we weren't doing good so I figured you wouldn't care yeah no yeah I don't what about what you're wearing yeah I got my sweatpants on oh well I mean I'm pissed but and a braid

we all know a braid I mean you have a wife but braid is the Last Frontier of the hair before it needs to be washed oh I didn't know that okay at least for me interesting she usually braids it right after she washes it well then it probably comes out all curly she's probably does she do that yeah she's well she's well

no well I think well cuz if she sleeps with it out without it braided I think it gets crazy or something ah yeah but me I think she looks beautiful either way you know well yeah she's gorgeous she can do whatever she wants yeah for sure uh but I think that's why right or so but if okay I'm conf yeah I don't

know holy cow what a Rubik's Cube I hate hair and makeup everyone thinks I love it but it's something that I despise so I don't really know a lot about it so maybe I've been doing it backwards it's supposed to be the first thing that I do instead it's the last thing that I do makeup no put my hair in a braid

oh I just I don't like the way I look without it but every time I do it for an hour I think it's an hour of my life that I'll never get back every single day and then I multiply those days and then by those years and then I think here what could I have done with these extra 47,2 24 hours of

my life and if like Paul E doesn't have to spend time on that he's got an extra hour I was RA I had two older sisters so I think maybe in my subconscious there's something about like I know how much effort and time it takes so I have a direct association with like my wife getting done up with like oh she cares

that is correct you know what I mean like she cares that much about to look that nice and I really appreciate it so it actually has like sure like she looks nice like I still think she looks beautiful without it but then at the same time it's more about like the act of doing it like it was like wow you look amazing

for me that's great like that's a turn on right mhm uh as opposed it's not just about like you look good that way you don't look good it's not binary like that it's more like I appreciate the but I you know talking to some guys that didn't have sisters or anything they're like to they're like I don't give a [expletive] if she

does it's ridiculous she spends an hour in the bathroom I'm like you I think you might be missing while she's doing it yeah she's showing her love for you and yeah I if I ain't going to do you know I didn't even put jeans on for you I mean I like you but sure yeah I we went on our anniversary dinner last

night and I like put like I put on an outfit and a yeah some jewelry and perfume yep you know cuz that's my man so I think it's weirder if you get done up like in a way you could actually go down the rabbit hole that it's like if you were just at home not going out and you got doled up it's

actually more meaningful than like if you went out totally cuz like you're only doing it for him you know if you only if you never get done up just for your man it's like well why are you doing it for all these people you don't even know yes or how they say women don't dress up for men they dress up for other

women and it's like oh well I guess that's true but it's also that's not I also want my man to like me but he does like me completely without makeup and stuff and he also knows on my off days I'm not going to probably do too much because it's a time thing and I'm very busy so he respects that because and to

me that's a love language as far as I know how busy you are and I don't need you to spend an hour of your day cuz I still think you're super hot oh it goes both ways for sure yeah love languages are insane oh God yeah you like your whole life you could spend on figuring that out well and my someone told

me the other day that their wife has all of them or something oh yeah I was like oh what do you do about that I just told my one of my buddies that the other day that you think you have all of them uh my wife does yeah I think to varying degrees and I think we all do common in women I

think for sure like I could totally see that with me they're almost like little buckets like some of them just get empty ah you know but each bucket might be a little bigger or smaller yeah and you never know which bucket is bigger and I'm not going to tell you cuz my sixth turn on is you knowing without me telling you that's

100 that's that is women in a nutshell you're welcome yep women have six Love Languages guys have five that's true the sixth one is you that's true and I get it I get it I want you to do this but I don't want to have to tell you slub and then when I tell you then you're gonna say well no I'm only

doing this because you told me to and then but it's like I thought you would like it yeah you told me you would like it well not when you do it like that it's so hard I'm talking like I got it all figured out I do not even remotely close but there's doing great like awareness of it helps a lot and then

you both can kind of look at each other like assuming good intent with your partner is huge like even if they're doing the wrong thing or piss you off knowing or like iess assuming that they're not trying to like they're trying to do the right thing uhhuh uh is big for me but when you go down that rabbit hole where each of

you are assuming the other one's like purposefully doing the wrong thing or out to get you then that's like oh that's too many mind game I'm too like I was tired hearing you saying that sentence that's too much thinking but I have a friend who hers is gifts like straight up she's like sending the little Emoji things oh there was a t

there was a te on okay I was going to say that's easy let just GIF it up hell yeah I'm in who is this girl I no but I think that's why I'm like Jess you need to be a little easier to get along with this gal she only wants gifs just text her I thought those were gifs oh I'm not even

like my dog is crying I might have to get my Tander to take her the time out is she okay why is she crying she's being psychopath is she really crying I thought that was a siren maybe that might have do you mind sorry this is we just go take we can go take her right now no she's fine if she starts

that it's improved so much like I've played it a bunch and I used to live in College Station um I'm only referring to it I don't know anything about it no it's always been amazing don't get me wrong chilfest I want to play there but I have played there but I remember in the early days it was it was so popular that

like the portapotty couldn't keep up and I remember like there was like overflowing was that the one when they had Zack Bryan or whatever no this was a long time ago when I lived there like 10 over 10 years ago oh so it's been popping for a long time oh yeah it's awesome I played there probably 10 years ago and I love

it's an amazing Festival but they've done a really good job of growing cuz they I think it got so popular that they were like oh my gosh you know I'm prepared a little bit yeah it's uh doing the festival thing is gnarly imagine takes a lot of time to grow it the right way and you can step in with a lot of

money and get a bunch of huge acts but sustaining that and they're also dealing with like pretty much only College yeah people so that's not like I'm my Outlaws and legends like that's a little bit of an older crowd I mean their Festival is so different because you're dealing with college kids and it's gotten worse with phones and stuff everything can be

picked up and reported on so Security's turned into a nightmare yeah it was it's really Gnar I know everybody says it but it's really gnarly to think about a lot of the stuff that would be on camera from when I was younger I was right at the cusp of like we're right on the edge of having everything online like I'm so thankful

that it didn't happen it would have been weird real weird College like having Snapchat in college that would have been so bad or I mean let's call it Spade to Spade like Tinder like I mean come on like I was a freaking disaster so it's like yeah was not a cool dude so yeah it would have been a nightmare with that and

then how that warps your mind there's The Grass Is Always Greener you can just swipe I mean my girlfriends I have so many single girlfriend and they're they don't even try to date cuz it's so awful out there right now I mean we're really lucky that we have people in what way like awful like uh like the guy the guys are just

goofy and awful the guys are I think they're just they know that they can get on a nap and go find the next thing you might have to take being crazy there's just no loyalty I or they are not as invested in finding forever because well they can just have fun for right now and then as soon as it gets a little

bit tedious they can just get on there and find unlimited literally unlimited other options can they no they think they can okay and then they end up an empty shell of a person and 50 years old and still single and sad but at least when they had to go to the bar get dressed up go deal with the rejection face to face

talk to people they maybe learned some other life skills in that process the they were I don't think their final goal has changed like as a dude it's like they're just trying to hook up with people yeah but maybe the difference is like pre- tender's like you don't have to really deal with the rejection you didn't actually have to approach her you

didn't actually have to like put yourself out there talk to 10 of them learn how to talk to them better right you just swiped you know back in the day it's like they actually learned some life skills like oh you're an idiot like you're better at talking like you smell bad like do you know what I mean you have exes on your

hands sir that's what happened to be in call station I was like oh no are you hitting on me you have ex's on your hands absolutely not 28 years old is that kind of flattering I don't know I think he was probably like oh this is a you know woman in her late 20s living in College Station she's probably okay spread or

something I don't know or like look into W I think you might have read a little too much into that one the guy's like no I just thought she was kind of hot I wish right yeah right I wish we could have right when you said that we had his face like in that moment and he's just like he's drunk and he's

like I hot man and you're like oh well yeah I think it was also me being really self-conscious living there and not fitting in there so I was probably reading way too much into that but anyway the Tinder thing I'm glad we didn't have it either the first thing that I think about is when people break up and they get so sad

there you know with the girls group text they're like oh my gosh my ex is on Tinder and they get so sad yeah so to me it's almost like more of a screw you I'm on a dating app now kind of thing and that would break that would have that's like going through two heartbreaks that would have been so sad yeah it

would have been rare that you walked into a you know a restaurant and seen your ex with somebody new yeah you know that's a real thing that you would have to then like learn how to like okay but there was not that extra tinge of like them trying to stick the knife you know I'm going to go hook up with other girls

on this app yeah it's like if you discovered them at dinner it's like well that was an accident like they're not rubbing it in your face it just so happened yeah that's like a whole other layer of and they say like depression and like with kids and stuff it's all not to mention just sitting there and swiping like those companies that helped

develop that stuff they like built slot machines and stuff really yeah I believe it because my mom back in the day she used to be like I can't get to the bottom of my cuz she used to like to see until she got back to where she stopped wa and then they now wait see where she like it used to be Facebook

used to be an actual timeline right so you could scroll until you are caught up wa and then now she doesn't like Facebook anymore because there's no n endless scrolling yeah that had you know that was like that's like a boardroom yeah no-brainer for them as a company which is insane yeah and I really try not to do it and my algorithm

is like pretty messed up where it's I released a song about my dog so I see a lot of like really sad dog stuff on there so it's like sad dog stuff and everybody who's playing the Opry except for me so it's really like they're screwing up because I'm scrolling less they should be showing meu yeah monkeys you don't want to get

on there cuz you're like gosh what I don't want to be sad and I'm old enough and wise enough to know this is making me sad and now there's articles coming out like you said people are doing studies and stuff where it's like this makes you depressed just Doom scrolling yeah just F flicking it's in the name flicking that's what I tell

my wife you ever there flicking she doesn't like that very much yeah but she's probably like looking at cool stuff and horses yeah horses and horses and for her job 24/7 it's not I do not need to be scrolling for my job yeah because I try to get on there to just to get a pulse of like what's going on um but

it does pull you in yeah and then when somebody's hot like when they're the thing I mean it is just like every other video I'm like okay cuz I like to discover that's why I started using YouTube more cuz it feels a little better for Discovery even Spotify doesn't feel great for music Discovery I'm trying to get it to where like give

me something I haven't heard yeah holy cow like God forbid you do the little like on a song CU it's just going to Pummel you with it yeah YouTube is um sorry YouTube is I found the most rewarding platform for like the podcast and stuff if we put 50 bucks into a YouTube podcast and boost it is like thank you so much

cuz I think they're competing with everyone else or YouTube shorts and I everyone's like just do I keep forgetting to do YouTube shorts but when I do it gets a ton of views because they're really appreciative because they're competing with the talk yeah it's like it just change but it changes sometimes like sometimes like Facebook does really well I can't knock it

too much because it's the only reason why I have any like remotely close to a music career it pre- internet I probably don't exist or I would just be doing like the Texas thing for sure but I would be like married to the road yeah I after those 22 shows in one month I don't necessarily want to be married to the road

anymore and I mean we talked about this last time maybe too but it doesn't it doesn't pay off like it used to the Grind of the highway I felt like used to pay off and it doesn't anymore so now we're having to like retrain our brains where okay working hard like that in a honky tonk where nobody cares in the middle of

nowhere isn't as worthwhile as me not leaving my house like that's so strange to me there's no built-in crowds no there used to be it doesn't exist anymore there used to be Texas country Thursdays and no matter who was playing show you were there yeah it was the cool thing to do well think about it the only way you could discover new

music was you heard it on the radio or and this is pre- internet you heard it on the radio uh or you heard them live and then you that's a dope band like the idea of going down to your local Watering Hole and saying seeing who's playing cuz you wanted to hear live music it just doesn't work that way anymore they find

you online which has it has given some artists the ability to have some careers that probably wouldn't yeah which is cool but it's also made some other people have to like really like readjust and they invested so heavily in that way of doing things that I don't know I mean it goes It goes both ways but I mean people adapt and it's

still you know I want to say that the like really good music will rise to the cream Rises to the top but it takes time takes a lot of time right and just like you said I did little like a light bulb about how much you know I have an RV in a trailer and a band that I have to pay x

amount per month and um all of our gear and so if I had taken all that money and put it into recording and releasing a song a month and I haven't had new music out in forever so yeah but it's the only way that I know and I do have new music coming but like my team sometimes I feel this is not

really them cuz they are the best and I love them but I feel like they're like why can't you have new music like this person in college has new music every month why can't you do it got to give and I'm like because I'm doing that yeah but then this isn't working as much and then it's so strange well so then in

my in like in my scenario I mean I play a i play shows I play lot of shows uh not as much as a lot of guys though so or gals like I don't play as many shows as you but like that time went towards putting out more music and F focusing on music but I can't get a booking agent cuz it's

like the Tail Wag and the dog they're like well you don't play enough shows and I'm like well that's what you're yeah that is so funny when agents are like you don't play enough shows it's like well I can't get shows cuz I don't have an agent yeah I know waging the dog it's so strange and you know what's weird and I

cuz I talk about this on my year and thing of the podcast I do like this 10-minute monologue about the music business and I'm like people out there without a booking agent like I see you and it's not for lack of try or talent but I really feel like it's kind of one of the one places that being a female with a

band in Texas has actually benefited me because I shouldn't have a booking agent more than any a lot of other people but I festivals need me because they have to I'm like the token female band there's not that many of us who can do it right so it's like that's like a bold thing for you to say well I think that there's

more and more females but I'm encouraging I want to encourage them because there's a lot of girls that are starting that are acoustic and that are really great but to make that transition from acoustic to having a band I mean it's so hard and I know how hard it is because I did it and I've done it for 10 years and I'm

like I would do it I any girl that wants to call me like tell me because I would I would tell you exactly what I think but they need females with the band and can I mean how many can you name it's not that many right yeah sure I not really I'm not saying the name them but I mean just in general

if there's going to be a Texas country festival and they need a female with a band yeah there's not that many of us and a booking agent probably knows that right yeah they're I mean they're looking at it like well how can I who am I going to pitch this to how yeah for sure that's very interesting I'm the only one like

for a lot of festivals I'll be the only that's not because I am the now there's more and more it's crazy seeing mile zero there's a girl on the main stage every day which is really awesome yeah and that was not the case but I don't love we talked about this last time we were together like I don't love the idea of

doing it just cuz they're a female like I find that to be super patronizing or they do a female and they put you first or whatever it's like oh no I'd rather Che a box correct I'd rather there be a female that goes in the place like I just played Bron Brothers in Idaho they gave me an amazing spot M they paid

me well and it was I don't think because I'm a female I think it's just because of whatever but it was like thank you for not just putting me on at 2 p.m. because some people do that and we pass on those all the time and that's why my agent he says we can she can get on any Festival she wants like

she's done them all it's now about the correct pay and the correct placement and if it's not that then we're not going to do it cuz I've done it good for you and it's hard sometimes good for you to pass on things I want to be at you know definitely but they put me at 3:00 p.m. I'm not going to go yeah

I feel and look stupid and play and then I'll go or they'll move me down and then I'll go watch the first person and there's nobody there for the first person because that's just how it is and it's not because it's a CH it's freaking noon it's noon on a Thursday and P ring goes on at 10: p.m. okay so anyway but

that's the fight that we're fighting yeah well I had uh a lady backstage one time that um she was what she whatever I was it was at my show too I don't even know whatever I she was started talking to me about like we need more women to like we need more women in this stuff and they need more opportunity and I

was like yeah like cool and she's like no but like we need to make it a point to and I go um I'm not down with that and she was and she like immediately kind of got offended and I was like well I'm more feminist than you are clearly like I want it to be because they're dope and they're cool and they're

good I'm not going to just be like you are so awesome I'm an ally like that's the dude you need to look out for cuz not it's the same way with like race like treating a black person different cuz they're black like talking different around them you know treating them a little different being a little nicer to them it's like that's weird

treat them like a human don't treat don't do that just because they're black that's racist or girls being like I had one girl go on a rampage cuz bre Baga doesn't support women and she went on and she public and t i well you're not good and you're mean there you go and I'm not going to support you just because you're a

female and how you can't use that and I you know and I'll get feedback from festivals and you're actually you know we hired you but you're actually good it's like oh you hired me because I'm a woman and someone insisted and then you're surprised that I didn't suck at my job that's offensive yeah like that's more offensive than agreed like okay and

if I have to you know have a great band and sometimes I tell the girl well back in the day it was you have to be twice as good as has the men to get attention or whatever and it's like well there's so many good people I can't be twice as good but I do want to do the best that I can

and I want to be on time and I want to be as I'm 15 minutes late for your podcast today I want to be on time and I want to be professional and I want to put on a good show and I want to be a nice person and I want to write good songs and put out great music and that has

I don't have to be twice as good that's too much pressure yeah but I do want to be as good and try to kick everyone well it's also like a little tinge of like victimhood where it like immediately kind of gives uh well I have to be twice as good so it's like immediately kind of like well if I don't have the

success that I want that's because of some outside force that I can't control is why it's happening and I wasn't 200% better than everyone else that's which if we're like talking about gratitude and thankfulness that's good luck living in that world that you created cuz you're going to be bitter and resentful and like cuz you can't control it right so like all

you can do is focus on the things you can control now like I understand in a broad sense like trying to like make some sort of seismic change and like change the way people perceive things like okay cool like you have to think about those overarching things but on your daily walk like you can't be focusing on like I got to be

200% better cuz I'm you know whatever's holding me back like okay I get it you still just have to put in the work 100% or the people that are not back a long time ago the people that weren't out playing shows you know I'm actively trying to change what I think is an underlying narrative or whatever anyone thinks about it the way

that I think that I'm trying to change it is by doing it and doing it well not complaining about it but also having conversations that need to be had but um and also passing on things that don't make sense for me and like communicating with a promoter that I'm past that and that's fine it's not it's also maybe not because I'm a

woman it's like I've been doing this for 10 years even if I was a man I'm not going to play the 3 p.m. slot has like I have graduated and I have to act like I have graduated because I have and I have to enact that change and if I move the needle for women a little bit in the scene which I

think that I have then I consider that successful and now I don't I just make it about putting on the best shows I can selling the most tickets that I can and having a great band and a great time and playing the gigs that I want to play Yeah I'm definitely obviously just cuz I'm not a female I'm very unaware of some

of the actually like aggressive I guess like male chauvinist type crazy like I've heard some stories now just being in the scene of like gals telling me stuff that they've like stuff that's been said to him and whatnot and it is like some of the most atrocious bizarre crazy things I've ever heard was friend told Paul like a couple weeks ago they

don't book girls and I was like how is this still happening like I thought we were past that I mean I've heard stuff like even worse than that like where it's like aggressively like bizarre stuff where I'm like Oh my like how does somebody how does that guy not get blasted in the face like where I come from that guy just doesn't

somebody like beats his ass correct I had I've I know I've had and I think that I've had people say things to me that I should have done that yeah well and I legit froze because I'm processing just like this is still happening in this it's driving home from the family reunion and they're like they said they said they did say that

what they actually said that yeah it's so weird and it still happens I think it happens less though and that's where I have to be you know optimistic I also think you guys this is like an objective stance on it too I think you guys get uh super screwed with front of house Engineers so there's a I mean you typically a female

vocal sits in a certain part of the EQ curve like it sits in like high mids so that's where it becomes harsh right and so typically when you hear people say like well I just don't like female vocalists it's like well it might become a little bit piercing at points because it sits in the high mids and like if you don't have

a like an engineer that's actually going to take care of you there like it's okay yeah it becomes a little it's a bit much right in the same way like my voice is super low Mitty so like I struggle with um if it's a more rocking tune but I'm in a lower register it just gets washed out by the low mids like

the Basse just covers it up so unless I have an engineer that's going to like he's aware of that and he's able to like crisp up my vocals so I actually do the opposite of a female like I need help in my highs like I want it needs to be more piercing so it cuts through cuz it's real low and Bassy uh

but the deal is low mids all that happens there is it just gets washed out it doesn't ever become like I guess like obnoxious or like piercing right the worst thing that happen to me is you just can't really hear my voice it's just muddy worst thing that happens to a girl is it just becomes piercing and but that's just purely from

like biology that's not and then people apply that to like well I just don't like female vocalists and it's like well why do you like some girls that sing in a certain register you know yeah or are we saying you know the actual volume that comes out of my voice it's a muscle right so like my volume is less than a man's

volume and if uh if we're in a small room or whatever and the symbols I my the way my mic picks up symbols he's cranking my vocal and you're getting a ton of symbols 100% that's not pleasing and but I do think that's so funny because I've heard plenty of Guy singers that I don't enjoy but I wouldn't be like I hate

male singers because one guy ruined it for me but that seems to happen a lot with women or um I think we can go super deep into this like if my engineer was here cuz there's like been studies done on um like biologically how we have certain reactions to certain types of sounds and it sets off certain um I guess like uh

like the idea of like a lion's roar hits a certain part of the EQ curve and it sets off our like oh [expletive] need to get out of here so there's elements of those I almost Ro but like with certain parts of the EQ curve that's why we perceive it as like danger or something like that huh so like if I were

to cuz there's I'm I actually find it like I listen to a ton of female artists but I'm like super into uh like I just discovered this G named Nikki that is like this Nikki Lane no well I do love Nikki Lane too jackpot uh but there no it's like this Indie singer songwriter from like Asia or something and uh but if

you go I'll send you your stuff but you're going to be like Oh shoot that's where Casey mus grapes got her thing and then you're going to like make the Deep dive and be like oh it's the same producer you're like got it interesting I think the female thing to me but it's the same thing that drives me crazy about a male

voice too is when they're using the top of it and as long pushing as hard as they can all the time so for a female voice obviously that's way higher so like that to me just sounds exhausting but I also don't like that in a man's voice either but there it is maybe a little bit worse when it is on that register

yeah cuz fundamentally it's just on a different part of the EQ curve so like what do you have what's the thing that like typically gives you that like where do symbols sit yeah where do where does a snare sit it's all like high mids right there and that's the thing that becomes you know and you heard that one night at a hongy

ton you were fighting with your wife and now you hate all female singers yeah probably and a girl a blonde girl turned you down for the prom and now you're never going to go to a b bag show but here's my thing my point is that they can they can like the same reason I get frustrated with front house guys because I'm

like ah the Bas is just swirling like my voice is lost right it's the same thing with like a piercing female vocal I'm like bro like I get pissed I'll go over I'm like bro like you're freaking doing her my background singer my he's a tenor and he's a Bluegrass guy so it's freaking I mean he is cooking and uh but they

front of house guys same his gets super piercing and I'm like man like he crushed it but you're screwing him right and it's so I don't have the money right now to travel around with my own front house guy so I'm kind of depending and there's nothing worse than getting off stage and being like we couldn't hear your words or whatever and

that's so frustrating and then the audience you kind of have to expl to them every night like hey I don't have my own guy you actually explain it well if or like after the fact maybe after if someone's like I couldn't hear your words or it's like I would love to travel even if I could though I can't find there's not people

that want to go on the road anymore finding a sound guy in this day and age I don't even know where they come from agreed if you're out there cuz I kind of want one yeah and we're maybe looking to add to our team but I don't even know where to look anymore and I used to have a list of people on

my phone who'd want to go on the road Co just we never got back it is weird it is weird but we're grinding we're gr we're bling we're just drinking whiskey and grinding it out see you later eting I have a show later it's going to be fine I don't understand why they canul to sing yeah listen iel Texas Paul E's going
